R. I. P. ??????

Recently, as I was on Facebook, I saw a post showing a picture of a person who had recently died, with the phrase R. I. P. underneath. I was surprised at my sudden reaction of recoil, and dismay. What a terrible thing to say!

Rest in Peace immediately triggered in my mind, a teaching that Rev. Carl R. Hewitt had discussed many times. He spoke of the Church teaching its members that when they die, if they lived good lives, their souls would go to heaven. Then the souls would sleep for eternity, until Jesus would wake them up. Rest in peace certainly corroborates this erroneous teaching.

Death is a second birth. It is what Jesus termed: “Being Born Again!” [John 3:3]

A special symbiotic relationship exists between an expectant mother, and her unborn child, for they are joined as one. The umbilical cord connects the child’s body to the mother’s, and serves as the unborn child’s lifeline that brings food and oxygen to the developing child.

Nine months after conception, the baby is fully developed within the mother. It is now time for the baby to make its grand entrance into the physical world. Usually the family knows when this will happen. The family makes many preparations for the arrival of the child. People give the mother, baby clothes, cribs, and other small pieces of furniture. Distant relatives may even travel to welcome the child into the physical world.

Moments after a baby’s birth the umbilical cord is severed, separating the child from its mother. The child now becomes an independent being, who lives, breathes, and has its own being as a separate individual. The child’s invisible body, its spirit, is now functioning on a slower, physical, vibrational rate, than it did when it resided in the Spirit World. The baby’s soul is now connected to its physical body by an invisible silver cord. Throughout the person’s life the silver cord connects the soul and the physical body.

A physical body cannot live unless the soul is there to animate it. As death occurs the soul starts to leave the physical body, and the silver cord pulls apart like an overcooked piece of spaghetti. When the soul is approximately 14 inches from the body, the silver cord snaps. The soul, unattached from its worn-out physical body, instantaneously arrives in the Spirit World. The soul is now the new body, which will live in a new world. In a sense, the soul is being born again, since it arrived in a new world, in a new body, and a second cord was severed.

Furthermore, the soul’s deceased friends and family members are there to greet the soul, just as they were in the physical world, when the baby first entered the physical world. The Bible teaches us this fact when it says, “Then Abraham yielded the spirit, and died in a good age, an old man and of great years, and was gathered to his people.” [Genesis 25: 8 Geneva Bible 1560]

Jesus was describing death when he spoke of being born again. He was not describing some dogmatic, theological process that a human being must go through. It would not matter if a person were Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Shinto, Taoist, Confuciusian, Hindu, or a member of any other religion. Death has nothing to do with religion. No physical person can enter the Spirit World, which Jesus called “the Kingdom of God,” in his/her physical body. To enter the Spirit World, one must go through a second birth, enter a new world, in a new body, and experience the severing of the second cord, the silver cord, which causes death of the physical body.

Contemplate a 1-year old baby for a moment. As you watch it during its waking hours, it is full of curiosity. It is exploring its new environment. It is learning and experiencing so many new things, and processing new information.

What makes anyone think there is any different for the second birth, or your life in the Spirit World? Many mediums have brought through detailed descriptions of the World of Spirit. [Testimony of Light by Helen Greaves, is one].

The Spirit World is similar to our world, yet radically different. The Spirit World has colors and flowers that we do not have here on earth. Everything is created through thought. Therefore, if you wanted to live in a mansion, all you have to do is to think it into existence… no contractors, no mortgage, no taxes, etc.

There are schools and universities in the Spirit World, where the soul gains enlightenment. There are opportunities for the soul to pursue whatever it wants. So for people to send the thought to a deceased person that it should rest is counter‑productive.

Instead we should send out the thought of strength and vitality. We should send the thought of encouragement, for the soul to enjoy the opportunity for spiritual evolution, and for active exploration in a new world. We should send the thought of peace and contentment. For the energy used in the Spirit World is thought. When we have thoughts of our loved ones, living in the Spirit World, it draws them closer to us, in that moment. The Spirits of our loved ones are only a thought away. Therefore, sending our thoughts of encouragement and blessings greatly energizes the Spirits.

We should also be grateful in knowing that the soul will no longer be in pain or disease, for those conditions no longer exists in the Spirit World.

We Live in an Instant Pudding World

Image

We want and demand everything instantly, especially our communication. So few people sit down to write a letter to a friend. It requires too much time, writing it, addressing an envelope, and attaching a postage stamp. Then you must send it by “snail-mail,” knowing it will take several days before your friend receives your letter. Most people send their messages by e-mail, since the message arrives in a matter of seconds. We demand speed. Today, a phone conversation takes too long, or we no longer want to be tied up for a 20 minute phone conversation, so we text our friends instead. It’s short, sweet, and instant. However, we will get annoyed if our friend does not respond to our text with a matter of minutes.

It has gotten to the point that we cannot be bothered to do the simplest tasks. It seems that in this instant age, making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich has become a tedious task. Taking a knife and spreading the peanut butter on one slice of bread and jelly on another, and then putting them together consumes too much time! Food manufacturers now offer pre-made frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. No fuss, no muss, and definitely instant.

Is it any wonder then why skills that require hours of time to develop may be on the decline? This explains why the quality of mediumship is declining. Today, after taking two or three classes student mediums feel they are ready to find a nice comfortable office, and begin reading for people. These people are often not interested in honing their craft and abilities, or learning how to provide depth to their evidence. Often their focus is on the bottom line, of making a large sum of money, so they can leave their “day” job, and no longer have please their demanding boss.

However, that attitude is not the way it has always been. Personally, I prefer cooked pudding to instant. I find that despite the fact I have to stand over the stove for perhaps 8 minutes, and constantly stir the pot of cold milk with the pudding mix, until it slowly reaches its boiling point, it is well worth the effort. The pudding is so much richer, soother, and even tastier than instant pudding. A generation ago the mediumship was like slow cooked pudding. Once a person discovered he or she had mediumistic abilities, the student worked under one teacher for perhaps a decade, before the teacher declared that the student was ready, and had earned the title of medium.

It is not in my experience, to make pudding without a mix. However, I am sure that my grandmother made pudding from scratch, which would be more time consuming than cooking a mix. I am told that at one time even established mediums would sit for an additional 8 to 10 years, to unfold, or develop an additional skill, such as becoming a medical intuitive: being able to scan a aura person’s aura to discover any medical ailments, or suggest changes in the diet to bring about better health for the sitter.

Who, today, would devote 20 years of their lives to develop this skill? And that is the precise reason why there are so few genuine physical mediums. For there is no instant pudding mix to have a spirit materialization, or direct voice, where Spirit could speak directly to an ungifted physical person. It takes a medium, sitting with a group of sitters decades before the beginning of Spirit materialization. In our instant pudding world, the person with that much patience is as rare as the Hope Diamond.

So why am I discussing this? The reason is that as has often been said, “The laws of psychic science (or mediumship) have not changed over time. What happened in Biblical times can still happen today.”

There is a Bible verse that has always baffled me. It occurs in the Bible story of Elijah’s ascension better known as Elijah and the fiery chariot.

Elijah knows that his time to leave the earth plane is eminent. As he walks with his student Elisha, from Gilgal to Bethel, Elijah says, “Stay here Elisha, the Lord/Spirit has told me told me to go to Bethel by myself.” Elisha tells Elijah, there is no way he is allowing Elijah to travel by himself, and accompanies his teacher to Bethel.

In Bethel, a group of prophets come up to Elisha and ask him: “Did you know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today?” [NLT]

Elisha tells them he knows, but doesn’t want to talk about it, especially in front of Elijah. This story is repeated again with Jericho as the destination. The prophets of Jericho as Elisha:

The (King James Version) KJV’s wording is very accurately translated from the Hebrew “take away thy master from thy head,” for the Hebrew word ראשׁ/rosh is used in this sentence. This clearly provides evidence proving that Elijah was the teacher, and Elisha was his disciple. Elisha was studying the techniques of mediumship (prophethood) under Elijah’s tutelage. The relationship between Elijah and Elisha will become important as we continue this story.

Again Elijah tells Elisha that he now has to go to the Jordan River, and must travel alone. Elisha again refuses to abandon his teacher and accompanies him to the Jordan River.

When they reached the shores of the Jordan River, Elijah takes off his cloak ormantle and hits the water. The river divides, and the two of them walk across on dry ground!

Then Elijah said to Elisha, “What can I do for you before I am taken from you?” Elisha has an interesting response:  “And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. [KJV]”

What is Elisha asking of Elijah? This verse doesn’t make any sense to our 21st century minds. We understand the Spirit is our soul, and is made up of energy. Is Elisha asking for part of Elijah’s energy? How could that be achieved? This small verse raises many questions.

Of course, I am not the first person to be confused by this verse, so I consulted traditional Bible commentators as to their perspective on this verse.

“Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me – Like Solomon, Elisha asks for no worldly advantage, but for spiritual power to discharge his office aright. The “double portion” is that which denotes the proportion of a father’s property which was the right of an eldest son Deuteronomy 21:17. Elisha therefore asked for twice as much of Elijah’s spirit as should be inherited by any other of the “sons of the prophets.” He simply claimed, i. e., to be acknowledged as Elijah’s firstborn spiritual son.”[1]

This is verse to which commentator is referring:

“He must acknowledge the son of his unloved wife as the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has. That son is the first sign of his father’s strength. The right of the firstborn belongs to him.”[2]

A second commentator concurs:

“Elisha considered himself the only child or first-born of Elijah, as the disciples of eminent teachers were called their children; so here he claims a double portion of his spiritual influence, any other disciples coming in for a single share only. Sons of the prophets means no more than the disciples or scholars of the prophets.”[3]

A third commentator comes right to the point.

“… But the phrase, “a double portion,” was applied to the first-born [De 21:17], and therefore Elisha’s request was, simply, to be heir to the prophetic office and gifts of his master.”[4]

Even if we understand the context of the request may be in accordance with the laws of inheritance, it still remains an odd request. If Elisha wanted Elijah to pronounce him Elijah’s successor, why not ask Elijah to do so directly. Why talk about a double portion of Elijah spirit.

This fourth commentator provides a very different interpretation in his attempt to explain this verse.

“and Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me; the two parts of the gifts of the spirit he had, that of prophecy, and that of doing miracles, as some think; or two parts out of three of what Elijah was possessed of; or rather double as much, and which he might desire, not from a spirit of vanity and ambition to be greater than his master, but from an eagerness to promote the glory of God, and the interest of religion, to reclaim the Israelites from their idolatry, and establish the true religion, which he might observe Elijah was not able to do with that measure of grace and gifts he had; or however this phrase denotes an abundance, a large portion or measure, as it everywhere does.”[5]

Now we are suppose to think that Elisha was asking Elijah for several of the Gifts of the Spirit. Clearly, this demonstrates this commentator lacks of knowledge of psychic science. No physical person can hand over a psychic gift to another human being. It is possible that in time, Spirit can help to unfold or develop a gift in a medium, but that takes work of both the Spirit and medium. Therefore, these Bible commentators have not provided a clear reason to explain why Elisha asked this rather unusual request.

Very recently, I received the key to unlock this mystery. I took a class with two very experienced mediums. They both had been trained in the traditional way, attending a development circle with one teacher for over a decade.

One of these mediums stated that until recently, when these mediums would observe another medium giving spirit messages, they could identify the medium’s teacher, not by the style of the message but by an energy imprint. There was a “signature” of the medium’s teacher in the medium’s aura. I imagine it is quite similar to Rembrandt signing his masterpiece, or photographer putting a watermark in their photo image using Photoshop.

I later asked this medium for further clarification. The master teacher will alter the vibration of a small part of his student’s aura. This was done when the master teacher felt the student was worthy of being called a medium.

Suddenly this mysterious verse became crystal clear. Elisha was asking Elijah to alter twice as much of his aura, with his signature. Elisha wanted to be able to carry on Elijah’s mission, and since Elijah was such a powerful medium, Elisha was asking for additional energy or ability so he could work at his master’s standards.

Elijah responds: “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah replied. “If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request. But if not, then you won’t.” [6]

As they were walking along and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and ·separated [drove between] Elijah from Elisha. Then Elijah ·went up [ascended] to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw it and shouted, “My father! My father! The chariots of Israel and ·their horsemen [its charioteers/or horses]!” And Elisha did not see him anymore. Then Elisha grabbed his own clothes and tore them in two [ a sign of mourning or distress].[7]

It is clear from this description that Elisha saw Elijah leave the earth plane, and therefore his request had been granted. As one continues to read the Bible one learns that Elisha became a great medium, and did many of the same gifts as his teacher. Elisha healed the sick, and multiplied food,

One last clarification is need in this story, and that concerns the image of Elijah being taken up into Heaven on a chariot of fire. One must realize that men who lived in Biblical times wrote the Bible. Therefore, they used language and images that were accurate for their time.

What we are reading about is not Elijah’s death, but his ascension. Elijah, like Enoch, before him, and Jesus after him, ascended from earth. The word ascension means that the physical body is NOT left behind, as it is in death. The person who ascends into Heaven/the Spirit World/a higher dimension takes his physical body with him.

The process of ascension occurs when the physical person has the ability to raise the frequency of the physical body. The rate of vibration continues to increase until suddenly, the physical body is vibrating so fast that gravity no longer has any effect on it. Therefore, the body rises into the air. When the vibration exceeds the speed of light, there is an explosion of light, and normal human eyes no longer can see the physical body. The person is now taken both their spiritual and physical body in the Spirit World.

The writers of this verse did not have this knowledge. All that Elisha saw the body of his teacher rise into the air. There were no airplanes, helicopters, or even hot air balloons in biblical times. The only mode of transportation was horse and chariot. When Elisha saw the explosion of light, it reminded him of fire. Therefore, he described Elijah’s ascension the only way he could understand… Elijah went up to heaven on a fiery chariot, pulled with fiery horses.

W. T. Parish 1873 – 1946

Image

ImageW. T. Parish became a world famous British healer. From the 1929 – 1940’s. He received more than 500,000 letters from around the world, either requesting absent healing from him, or thanking him for the wonderful results.

Background

W. T. Parish became a world famous British healer from the 1929 – 1940’s. He received 15,000 letters a year, from around the world requesting absent healing from him.

Parish dedicated his life to his healing work. He worked 7 days a week, yet he did not charge for his healings. He was a humble man, who never sought publicity, nor did he advertise his services. His fame was created by “word of mouth,” based on the amazing results from his healings. People often sought healing from Parish and were cured, after their doctors labeled as with a terminal illness.

Beginnings

W. T. Parish lived most of his life unaware of his healing ability. Parrish worked for the railroad company and was away from home for weeks at a time. Peggy, W. T.’s wife was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors predicted that she only had 6 months left to live. Shortly after Peggy came home, someone suggested to Mrs. Parish that she seek healing from a Spiritualist. W. T. was very against this idea. He believed that “Spiritualism is only for weak-minded women and for men who don’t think.” Nevertheless, Peggy wanted to go, and eventually W. T. acquiesces and he accompanied his wife to a Spiritualist service.

W. T. discovered Spiritualism did not make the emotional appeal to the unintelligent as he had erroneously thought. Suddenly his intellectual curiosity was ignited, and he furiously began reading all the mediumistic literature he could find. With this newly gained knowledge, W. T. prayed for guidance. Then, one night, he became aware of “unseen influence” at his bedside.

Mr. and Mrs. Parishes decided to attend a séance for the first time. The medium conducting the séance was a trance medium, who they did not know. The medium entered the altered state of trance, which allowed Spirit to speak to each of the sitters. Spirit told W. T. he was a natural born healer, and that he could and would heal his wife, Peggy.

W. T. became very excited, but told the Spirit he knew nothing about being a healer. Spirit then gave W. T. explicit instructions on how to heal Peggy, by laying on of hands.

For the first time, W. T. was hopeful about his wife’s condition. He explicitly carried out Spirit’s instructions, by laying his hands on Peggy every day. However, there were times when W. T. was away from home for work, and on those days, he did absent healing on those days. In nine months Peggy was healed.

Beginning of Parish’s Healing Career

Spirit told W. T. he should continue his healing work with other people suffering with health problems. Meanwhile, word of Peggy’s cure spread rapidly, because the doctors had given her so little hope of survival. Soon people approached W. T. asking him if he would heal them. People started to come to W. T.’s house to receive healing. It did not take long for people from all parts of London began to travel to the Parish house for healing. W. T. decided to convert the “best room” of his house into a healing sanctuary. Soon W. T. realized that the requests for healing far exceeded the time he had to perform the healings, and he made the important decision to take early retirement from his railroad job in order to dedicate his life to heal the sick.

Parish describes his Healing Gift

W. T. was a true spiritual healer. He never asked the patient for any medical history, because he realized it was Spirit who did the healing, and they did not need to be told where to direct the healing energy. W. T practiced healing the same way it was practiced during the early days of Christianity.

W. T. also developed additional Spiritual gifts. He became clairvoyant and saw the Spirit doctors who worked through him. He had two main Spirit Doctors. There were times when these Spirit Doctors would overshadowed Parish and made their presence known to some patients.

The first was known as “Brother William.” W. T. later learned that Brother William was a former president of the Royal Ophthalmic Hospital.

W. T.’s second Spirit Doctor was Abdul Latif, who was a Persian Spirit healer. Eventually W. T. found a museum librarian, who found documentation that Abdul Latif was a physician, who lived 1750 years ago, in the same timeframe as King Richard I, circa 1189. It was interesting that Abdul Latin used all current medical knowledge & techniques, such as dietetics, medicine, osteopathy and homeopathy.

Letters Written to W. T. Parish

The following is a sample of a few of the letters that W. T. received asking for absent healing.

One man had lost his hearing. His doctor said the auditory nerve had died. Through absent healing, within two weeks, the man’s hearing had returned.

Another woman had been bed-ridden for 14 years. She actually walked after one absent healing treatment.

A Spanish family with 3 children wrote. They were in great need. Two of the children had typhoid fever, and their third child had meningitis. W. T. began sending absent healing. Two weeks later, they wrote Parish to report that two of the children were cured, and the third was getting better.

One doctor of the Royal College of Physicians finally was relieved of abdominal pain, after seeing Parish. He had been “taking the very best remedies” to no avail.

Another man had a stomach ulcer that was inoperable. After regular treatment by Parish, the ulcer had healed and was no longer visible on the x-ray.

One boy was no longer diabetic after being treated by Parish.

Often cures were accomplished without the patient knowing that Parish was sending absent healing.

Questions from Maurice Barbanell’s Interview with Parish

Q:“What is your own attitude towards this spiritual healing?”

A: “I believe I am fulfilling the laws of God,” he replied. “I am fulfilling that which God has chosen for me-to be a blessing to His children of this earth. I work for the alleviation of suffering mankind, not only for their bodies but also for healing their souls, by bringing light, understanding, happiness and hope. “I don’t want people to come to me when a doctor can heal them. But when they say ‘I don’t want a doctor. I would rather come to you,’ I am delighted to be of service. “I have no animosity towards doctors and surgeons. All I try to do is to follow the one great healer, Jesus the Nazarene. I know there have been other spiritual masters and I commune with them. I am a follower of the Nazarene, because I know that I am allied with him. “There is nothing on earth that would deter me from going on with my healing, even if the whole world were against me.”

Q: What is your advice to other healers?

A: “If you aspire to be a healer you have to learn to eliminate self. You have to become worthy in the eyes of God to be used as a fitting instrument for His power to pass through you.” “It is His power. If you are not a suitable instrument in the eyes of God, His divine power cannot pass through you. Mine is spiritual healing. It is not magnetic healing. There is a vast difference.

Magnetic healing involves “the manipulation of chi energy or prana on a person’s body through the use of the hands. The healer uses their etheric body as a channel for the soul to transmit vital pranic force into the etheric and physical body of the person being healed.”

Spiritual healing is when the healing force and energies comes from “Spirit” or God via the healer, which effect healing in a patient.

The healer is aware of a bountiful, endless supply of healing energy flowing from Spirit/God through his/her, body into the patient. The spirit guides or doctors may “overshadow” the healer, subtly directing the healer’s hands to certain places on the patient’s body where healing can best be effected.

Parish said, “I take no personal credit. I am but the lowly servant always ready to give, to praise God and His ministering angels, because it is through them that I am permitted to heal.”

Q: How conscious are you of your spirit cooperators?

A: “When I am healing I am fully conscious of spirit co-operators and I talk to them. Gradually the trance condition is passing away, giving place to an overshadowing that leaves me more and more aware of myself. All the time I strive to overcome all obstacles and limitations.

“I am conscious of the influx of spirit power. It even produces a physical reaction in the region of the solar plexus. I get a sensation of great holiness and I feel that I am at one with the Great Spirit.”

Parish received letters requesting absent healing from people living in 73 countries The list included: Africa, Argentine, Australia, Algeria, Austria, Arabia, Alsace Lorraine, Armenia, Alaska, Abyssinia, Afghanistan, Belgium, Bulgaria, British West Indies, Brazil, Balkan States, China, Canada, Canary Islands, Ceylon, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Corsica, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, Ecuador, France, Finland, French Guiana, Greenland, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Iraq, Italy, India, Ivory Coast, Japan, Java, Libya, Mexico, Morocco, Malay States, New Zealand, New Guinea, North Borneo, Norway, Newfoundland, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Palestine, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Sicily, Siam, Turkey, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Yugoslavia.

Conclusion

Maurice Barbanell wrote, “It was inspiring to watch Parish at work when I visited his sanctuary to witness the public healing. For over three hours he gave individual treatment to a score of people.”

“Two of his patients told him when he came out of trance that there was no need for them to attend any more. The psychic healing had brought them new health. One was a woman who had suffered for years with partial and glaucoma of the eyes. She expressed her joy at her cure and thanked Parish for all his help. With typical modesty he refused thanks. “I am only an instrument,” he answered. “Glorify God. Radiate happiness.” He has cured patients suffering from such “incurable” diseases as cancer, diabetes, rheumatism, tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis, infantile paralysis, deafness and blindness.”

“Another remarkable case came from Kenton, Middlesex, and dealt with a boy who was paralyzed from the waist downwards and lay helpless in bed. Shortly after the absent healing began, he called to his mother and insisted that he felt well enough to walk. With trembling eagerness his mother helped him to dress and brought him a stick. With this as an aid he managed to get down the stairs and walk all round the garden. That was the immediate effect of the absent healing.”

Maurice Barbanell wrote, “[Parish’s] life is a tribute to the great service that can be rendered by one man-when he is moved by the ‘power of the spirit’ and prepared to make sacrifices for his mission.” I have tried, to present a picture of a man who is undoubtedly the greatest healer in the world today, a saint who is living a blameless life and performing “miracles” every day.

He has not been “ordained.” He has not passed any theological examination. He has no clerical status. He is not a “reverend,” minister, pastor, bishop or archbishop. But he has the largest church in the world, for it includes thousands of healed sufferers to whom he has brought health, relief, hope and comfort.”

What is Mediumship?

Rev. Carl R. Hewitt established the Gifts of the Spirit Church with one prime directive in mind: “I will not have you ignorant of the Gifts of the Spirit.” This also became my mission statement, when I began to continue his work.

To be educated with the Gifts of the Spirit means one needs to fully understand the topic of mediumship. That is not an easy task, since mediumship has so many facets. One can study the many mediumistic gifts that include: Clairaudience, Clairvoyance, Clairsentience, Prophecy, Trance, Dreams, Apports, Automatic Writing, Materialization, Direct Voice, Dowsing, Healing, Levitation, Psychometry, and Precipitated Art.

Then one can study the experiences of hundreds of mediums who have been recorded in history. Many of them struggled to prove the existence of Spirit to the public, and scientists, who refused to judge their work fairly.

One can also study how religions and mediumship have been intertwined and been rivals for people’s attention. While every religion was started when its founder had a psychic or mediumistic experience, the theologians and clergy of most religions often feel threatened by mediumship. All religions have Spiritual truths (often provided by Spirit) mixed in with man-made dogmas. Religions have sought to control the minds of the people, and therefore, have forbidden all mediumship and access to mediums. This was often done, as in Biblical times (when these prohibitions against mediumship were inserted into the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy of the Bible) for economic reasons.

One can also study the Bible through the eyes of a medium. The Holy Bible is a book of psychic history. Most major personalities of the Bible either heard God/Spirit’s voice, or had visions. While the Bible labels these people seers and prophets, today we would call these gifted people mediums. The laws of psychic science have never changed; therefore, the mediumistic phenomena demonstrated in Biblical times can still take place, today, in the 21st century.

Today, I want to address mediumship itself, since there are several motivations for one to become or develop one’s mediumship, and then to decide on what direction to channels one’s gifts.

When one acts as a medium, one becomes the telephone wires between the physical and Spirit Worlds. It is a medium’s goal to become “a clear channel” meaning that the thoughts within the medium’s mind should not be mixed into Spirit’s message. That is not always easy to do, because for some mediums, the message comes as a very subtle shift from within the medium’s mental facility.

However, what is much easier for a medium to do is to set the intent for their mediumship. This simply addresses the question: “Why do I want to be a medium?” There are several answers to that question.

One very important reason is to help people to deal with the grief of losing a loved one, or relieve guilt about issues surrounding a loved one’s passing. Grieving is a very personal journey which is different for every person who experiences it. Often, if a grieving person consults a medium, who is able to bring communication from the loved one, it helps to heal the grieving heart. While most religions teach there is life after death, many people have a difficult time accepting it, because they are not mediumistic, and do not see or hear their loved on in Spirit. If they do feel the presence of their loved one, they logically think that they are imagining it.

If one studies Theresa Caputo on the Long Island Medium TV show, one can witness the peace of mind she brings to so many of her clients. By bringing through specific pieces of information (evidence) that only the person in spirit and the sitter knew, it establishes credibility the Spirit of the loved on is present. When the loved one discusses events that happened after the person entered into the Spirit World, the sitter realizes that life does continue after death, and their loved one is watching over them, and knows what is happening in their daily life. This is an extremely important facet of mediumship.

Mediums who have been trained in the “British” system specialize in this type of evidential mediumship, for to waver from this formula, subjected them to legal charges, of witchcraft (pre 1951) and fraud (post 1951).

However, there is another component of mediumship, which goes in tandem with proving the continuity of life. Since spirit lives in a timeless dimension, they can easily see into our future, and provide us guidance to avoid “pitfalls” in our lives. The medium needs to truly understand how s/he receives the information that is entering his/her consciousness. For a medium can access the guidance facet from the aura of the sitter. However, this information would be gleaned through psychic abilities. If the information is coming from a Spirit person then it is mediumistic. Some mediums are much better at this guidance facet than others. It can be that is the medium’s intent when s/he asks to become a channel for the Spirit World, or it may be his/her focus. Rev. Carl Hewitt gave outstanding guidance during his reading, while Theresa Caputo just gives some, (or at least that is all we get to see on television).

A third component of mediumship is educational or philosophical. Some mediums set their intention on allowing spirit to teach through them, instead of giving personal readings. Andrew Jackson Davis, “the Poughkeepsie Seer,” would be an example of this type of medium. Davis did not finish elementary school, so his formal education was extremely limited. However, he was a deep trance medium. He would go into a trance state, in a theatre full of people, with a stenographer writing down the information being said. The information at the time was outstanding, dealing with scientific and medical topics, and predicting discoveries that would be made. This clearly was far beyond his understanding, proving that the information was coming from an intelligence outside of his own consciousness.

Unfortunately, some medium’s intent is economic, seeing mediumship as an easy method to rake in lots of money. Usually the quality of a medium’s work will be reliant on the medium’s intent for being an instrument of the Spirit.

Facets of Mediumship

Welcome to my blog, which will explore the many aspects of mediumship. A medium is a person, who has the ability to perceive and receive information emanating from the Spirit World. Most people call the Spirit World heaven, and believe that it is a place, somewhere above the earth, where the souls of departed people reside. This concept is partially true. The Spirit World is above our physical world, not it distance, but in vibration, or frequency.

We all understand that if you take some ice cubes and place them in a pot, which is then put on the stove and turn on the heat the ice cubes will melt. The heat causes the water molecules to move faster, and as more heat is applied the speed of the molecules continue to increase. Eventually, the water molecules are moving so fast, that the ice cube can no longer remain solid, and becomes a liquid we know as water. As heat continues to be applied, the water molecules move even faster and turn into steam, which is no longer visible to our physical eyes.

If you take a very cold plate that has been stored in the freezer, and hold it over the pot producing steam, and water molecules become cool down, and move slower, as they contact the plate, then they condense, or turn back into water on the plate.

In this entire process, nothing has altered the structure or chemistry of water molecule itself. The molecules just began to vibrate or move faster, which caused the change in their state of matter (solid to liquid to gas).

Our souls are very much like water molecules. When death comes to the physical body, the soul exits the physical body, then its rate of vibration increases. It immediately begins to vibrate on a higher rate of frequency, than our physical eyes can see, just as we could not see the steam.

Mediums are people with “extra sensory perception.” Their senses work in ranges of frequency that most people cannot receive. This is what enables them to become the “telephone lines” which connects physical people with the souls of people living in the World of Spirit.

There are many different ways that mediums communicate with the Spirit World, and this blog will explore and explain them to you.

The Diamond of Mediumship

Mediumship can easily be compared to a beautiful, brilliantly sparkling diamond.

Diamond Mediumship
Brings light into the world. Brings light (knowledge and healing) into the world.
A diamond is a rather dull stone when extracted from the ground. It needs to be polished, and facets cut into it so that light will be reflected, then the diamond sparkles in the light. Mediumship also needs to be polished. It is usually called development. The medium learns how to connect with spirit, and the techniques of the communication process. As the medium develops, it is like an additional facet is being created which will be more detail and clarity into the communication.
The more facets cut into the diamond, the more brilliant and sparkling it will become. Each facet is another phase of mediumship, or a different gift of the Spirit. Three examples would be Clairaudience (hearing Spirit) Clairvoyance (seeing Spirit) Clairescience (feeling Spirit)
Much work goes into the transformation of a rough dull diamond until it becomes a brilliant sparkling gemstone. Much work goes into a medium’s development to become a clear (brilliant) channel for bringing through Spirit messages.

Just as a diamond has many facets, which allows light to be reflected and causes the mesmerizing sparkle in the diamond, mediumship also has many different facets. This blog will explore the many aspects or facets of mediumship. The facets will include:

  Facet Banner color
 1. Facets of Mediumship Grey
 2. Mediumship in the Bible Green
 3. Gifts of the Spirit Purple
 4. Medium’s Biography Blue
 5. Psychical Research Orange
 6. History of Mediumship Red
 7. Book Reviews Magenta

Each entry will have a colorful banner, which will allow the reader to know to which facet the article belongs.

It is my hope this blog will bring to light, the wondrous, rich history of mediumship in all its different facets.
